If you get a C at AS, do you need an A at A2 to equal out as a B?

Not necessarily - it depends on how high the C is. If you've just scraped the C at AS (i.e. have just hit the boundary), then you will need an A at A2.

They add your UMS from AS to your UMS from A2 to calculate the overall grade
The more ums you get at AS the less you need from A2
Maths and Sciences are 600 max ums. You need 420 for B
If you get 209 at AS (highest possible C) you need 211 at A2 (a low B)
If you get 180 at AS (lowest possible c) you need 240 at A2 (an A)
