A few days ago, my friend asked our head of year when its prom and she said that it's at the end of May or beginning of June. I can't decide whether I should go or not because I don't want to affect my GCSE's in any way

One night off won't seriously affect your GCSE performance. It'll be one of the last chances you'll see your whole year group together and it's a bit of fun.

I honestly would go for it and not worry too much it'll be worse missing out then sitting at home watching everyone else upload pictures and talk about how much they enjoyed it.

I don't understand why the head of year would decide to put prom in the middle of exams, it's a bit silly! This happened to my sister but luckily for our year the exams were over by then. I would suggest going though as long as you don't have exam the next day because it'll be an experience but if you think you'll be too stressed then don't. Alternatively you could ask your head f year to change the date if the date hasn't been set in stone yet
