    Hello there,

A friend of mine is applying for a child care qualification that has a requirement of,

"You will need GCSEs in English and Maths at D - E grade.

You will be required to sit an English test to assess their written ability. more
    "

My question is that, can he only sit in these two GCSE subjects, English and Math, or he will have to get the whole GCSE degree with 7-8 subjects like it is normally..

    I'd appreciate your help here,
    Regards

If he's over 18 he can do what he wants.

The thread title makes no sense.

Ideally you will need 5A*-C grades including English and Maths at GCSE for literally everything regardless of what people say as that is the minimum requirement.

If he's at school and is 16 he'll have to sit whatever school makes him sit. If he's over that age then he can do whatever he wants independently

Yes, he's an adult... He's well literate, but not accordance to UK system.. The requirement just says A-C grade in English and Math.. So, I just wanted to ask that can he appear in only these two GCSE subjects, or like us like we did in school.. etc..

I guess he can do that, appear in just two subjects.

I don't know what you mean by 'appear', but if you mean take, he can take whichever subjects he wants, as long as the school/college is happy with him taking them there.

I suggest he does all the exams he might change his mind in the future and change his career path but if he doesn't then there'll be competition for the career path he's chosen - child care - so he has to stand out against his peers

Basically if they have maths and english gcses that are d-e grades, then they will get in. That is the MINIMUM. Idealy, they would have more than that.
