Out of interest, have any members here heard of the Achtiname of Muhammad and what are their views towards it?

Tradition says that the Monastery of St Catherine's in Sinai sent a delegation asking Muhammad for his protection and that Muhammad personally granted by charter, the protection of their Monasteries and Monks. The original document is now preserved in Topkapi Museum in Instanbul.
What is of interest is that this monastery has been remarkably preserved and protected throughout history. It would seem that the protection and preservation of this Monastery was upheld and possibly supports the document? This Monastery is unique among Christian monasteries. It is the oldest continually inhabited Monastery in the world, it was home (although now is kept in British Library) the oldest most complete copy of the New Testament, it is home to the oldest icon of Jesus in the world, it has the second largest collection of early Christian manuscripts in the world (second only to the Vatican) and has what is considered the best collection of early Christian iconography in the world.
It is remarkable that these early Christian works were preserved in a rather insignificant and small Monastery in the heartland of Muslim Egypt.

This is something we should all take heed from. Right now many of us are in love with the dunya but do we forget the love of SAW?
On the day of Qiyamah. When Allah (SWT) will send Jibraeel and Mikhaeel (AS) on a special mission.... they will go down to SAWs grave and open it. SAW will wake up and ask "What day is it?" Jibraeel will say "Qiyamah has started"
The first sentence to come out of SAWs mouth is... "What about my ummah?"
Look at the love! On the starting day of qiyamah... he didn't ask about his family, about his wives, about his children... he asked about us! Me and you. Our Ummah

Many people forget one significance that took place during that night. It's when Jibraeel came down to SAW and gave him 2 options. Either the milk or the wine, he had to choose. (Narrations differ on the option. Some say he was given either 3 or 2 but Wallah'u'Alam) He chose the fitrah which was the milk... one narration says if he had chosen the wine then our whole ummah would have gone astray.. subhanallah.

As shaykh Saleh (hafidhahullah) himself says it is not good to ask to those who ask scholars general questions without mentioning a person name then after saying Shaykh so and so (like Shaykh Fawzan) refuted such and such person, and he did not say such.

This is their aim against this person , that *you *imply to him ( their method of attacking him, because they have hatred for this person, and is against him).
So they say: So and so (scholar) said in this person is this and this, (or he is like this and like that)! And you did not even mention this person by name….or no such a person at all, that you only answer a general question (without mentioning that person name). And they put this on the person that they are against, they say (shaykh) so and so intended this person, and intended a group of personalities, and with this they come with audios, and author books with such claim saying (shaykh) so and so said this, said this person he is like this or he is like that ( claiming shaykh so and so refuted this person or issue a fatwaa against this person), and he answer about this. And the goal of theirs with this is to cause corruption between the people, and to incite problems between the seekers (students) of knowledge. And this is the cause of enmity falling out between the seekers of knowledge.
So we warn you, and we ask you by Allah to keep away from this type of characteristic. And do not be mislead and misguided with this bad dislike characteristic*or this bad character becomes of you. So be aware *and extremely cautious of this bad character.”
and I have watched the video of Yasir and he does ot advocate the abandonment of scholars. I believe the brothers who asked shaykh Saleh the question might have misunderstood what yasir meant.

Well this is the first time I hear of it, so I'd need to study about it and look into islamic sources on the event.

Even if it were not authentic, the fact that the monastery and its possessions have been so well preserved, one could possibly make the assumption that early Muslims must have considered it authentic enough to have obeyed it? Not even Christian monasteries in Christian nations have such well preserved manuscripts and icons.

Why not simply have a prohibition on ostentatious displays of wealth rather than forbidding the use of a potentially useful material. Remember that it applies to everyone, everywhere, forever.
Well firstly it is about prohibiting pridefulness in wealth, showing off,..etc
But it is not a rule for everyone, silk is only prohibited for men. I would have hoped you'd look that up.
Also artificial silk is allowed for men. But even then if the man wears the artificial silk for the above prohibited reasons then itself becomes prohibited.
Allah's forbidding of the use of animal skins and silk makes it appear as though his only point of cultural reference was 7th century Middle East.

Thanks to research, more than eight in ten children now survive cancer for five years or more, compared to just three in 10 in the late 1960s. But there’s so much more to do to make sure all children survive and with the best possible quality of life afterwards.
Kavil is living proof of the importance of research – the chemotherapy he was given means he’s now able to follow his dream of becoming a pharmacist. His interest in pharmacy stems from his vivid memory of the drugs he was given as a young child, and the tremendous hope they represented to his family:
“I want to be on the front line treating patients” Kavil explains. “The moment when you receive the medicine you need is so critical. All your hopes are in one little bottle. I want to be the person who meets patients and their families face to face to provide that lifeline they need.”
A source of strength
Max
Reminiscing with Kavil was Max, a 21 year old survivor of chronic myeloid leukaemia, now studying psychology at Bournemouth University. Both Kavil and Max require yearly checkups and they swapped stories about this annual ritual at the hospital, where the nurses still remember them and are so excited to see them again, even a decade after they were treated.
For Max, it was the health psychologist who was the source of so much strength for him and his family during treatment. “She single-handedly turned a nightmare into something almost bearable.” Now, Max’s greatest desire is to become a health psychologist himself and to pass on that strength to others.
Understanding the biology of cancer
Lee
Dr Anderson specialises in immunotherapy, treatments that turn the body’s immune system against cancer. During the lab tour, he explained how “In the late 1990s people felt that the immune system had nothing to do with cancer. Twenty years later this view has been entirely turned on its head.”
This was something of a refresher course for Lee, now 20 but diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukaemia when she was 14. Lee is in her third year at Manchester University studying biochemistry, but is currently doing a placement in Dr Anderson’s lab, as she hopes to pursue a career in cancer research.
Lee’s interest in studying to be a cancer researcher was triggered during a period of enforced solitude when she was being treated with immunosuppressive drugs following a bone marrow transplant. She was forced to live a very sheltered existence for several months to ensure that her own body didn’t reject the life-saving bone marrow from a donor.
Unable to see any friends, Lee devoted her time to her studies. She had a strong desire to learn how cancer worked, how this horrid thing inside her had come to be, and how she could stop it.
Better, kinder treatments
Lucy
During the lab tour, everyone had a hands-on opportunity to see how the battle against cancer is being waged from the laboratory bench. Donning their lab coats, the students looked at cancer cells through the microscope and became acquainted with the latest tools designed to destroy them.
It was particularly inspiring for Lucy, who is starting her first year of Cancer biology and Immunology in Bristol. Four years ago she was diagnosed with alveolar rhabdomysosarcoma, a rare cancer of the muscles.
Her mother Emma said: “The chemo was awful, but she kept on smiling through it all, even when she lost all her hair, grim for anyone, but especially for a 15 year old girl. All the wonderful healthcare staff commented on her ability to keep smiling and stay cheerful, no matter how horrid things got, and how rough she might have been feeling.”
Lucy is now in remission and keeps immensely cheerful. She’s determined to help find the next treatment, and to make it better and kinder, so that no one else need go through the same treatment she had.
Camilla
Camilla, a survivor of Hodgkin lymphoma, is also motivated by a desire to help patients. She’s studying medicine at the University of Bristol. Having spent two years in and out of the hospital, she finally finished her treatment on the same day as she finished her GCSE exams.
She got 10 A stars – an astonishing achievement for any pupil, let alone someone who has had to endure months of cancer treatment.

Kavil is living proof of the importance of research – the chemotherapy he was given means he’s now able to follow his dream of becoming a pharmacist. His interest in pharmacy stems from his vivid memory of the drugs he was given as a young child, and the tremendous hope they represented to his family:
“I want to be on the front line treating patients” Kavil explains. “The moment when you receive the medicine you need is so critical. All your hopes are in one little bottle. I want to be the person who meets patients and their families face to face to provide that lifeline they need.”
A source of strength
MaxReminiscing with Kavil was Max, a 21 year old survivor of chronic myeloid leukaemia, now studying psychology at Bournemouth University. Both Kavil and Max require yearly checkups and they swapped stories about this annual ritual at the hospital, where the nurses still remember them and are so excited to see them again, even a decade after they were treated.
For Max, it was the health psychologist who was the source of so much strength for him and his family during treatment. “She single-handedly turned a nightmare into something almost bearable.” Now, Max’s greatest desire is to become a health psychologist himself and to pass on that strength to others.
Understanding the biology of cancer
LeeDr Anderson specialises in immunotherapy, treatments that turn the body’s immune system against cancer. During the lab tour, he explained how “In the late 1990s people felt that the immune system had nothing to do with cancer. Twenty years later this view has been entirely turned on its head.”
This was something of a refresher course for Lee, now 20 but diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukaemia when she was 14. Lee is in her third year at Manchester University studying biochemistry, but is currently doing a placement in Dr Anderson’s lab, as she hopes to pursue a career in cancer research.
Lee’s interest in studying to be a cancer researcher was triggered during a period of enforced solitude when she was being treated with immunosuppressive drugs following a bone marrow transplant. She was forced to live a very sheltered existence for several months to ensure that her own body didn’t reject the life-saving bone marrow from a donor.
Unable to see any friends, Lee devoted her time to her studies. She had a strong desire to learn how cancer worked, how this horrid thing inside her had come to be, and how she could stop it.
Better, kinder treatments
LucyDuring the lab tour, everyone had a hands-on opportunity to see how the battle against cancer is being waged from the laboratory bench. Donning their lab coats, the students looked at cancer cells through the microscope and became acquainted with the latest tools designed to destroy them.
It was particularly inspiring for Lucy, who is starting her first year of Cancer biology and Immunology in Bristol. Four years ago she was diagnosed with alveolar rhabdomysosarcoma, a rare cancer of the muscles.
Her mother Emma said: “The chemo was awful, but she kept on smiling through it all, even when she lost all her hair, grim for anyone, but especially for a 15 year old girl. All the wonderful healthcare staff commented on her ability to keep smiling and stay cheerful, no matter how horrid things got, and how rough she might have been feeling.”
Lucy is now in remission and keeps immensely cheerful. She’s determined to help find the next treatment, and to make it better and kinder, so that no one else need go through the same treatment she had.
CamillaCamilla, a survivor of Hodgkin lymphoma, is also motivated by a desire to help patients. She’s studying medicine at the University of Bristol. Having spent two years in and out of the hospital, she finally finished her treatment on the same day as she finished her GCSE exams.
She got 10 A stars – an astonishing achievement for any pupil, let alone someone who has had to endure months of cancer treatment.

It is remarkable that these early Christian works were preserved in a rather insignificant and small Monastery in the heartland of Muslim Egypt.

Interesting. Wouldn't surprise me if it was true considering one of the reasons the Battle of Badr was faught was to protect places of worship like monasteries.
Quran (22:40) translation:
"[They are] those who have been evicted from their homes without right - only because they say, "Our Lord is Allah ." And were it not that Allah checks the people, some by means of others, there would have been demolished monasteries, churches, synagogues, and mosques in which the name of Allah is much mentioned. And Allah will surely support those who support Him (support the Deen of Muhammed (saw)). Indeed, Allah is Powerful and Exalted in Might."
As shown above, Muslims fought back not only to save Islam but also to protect the monasteries, churches and synagogues where God's name is mentioned i.e. praised.

I don't know of the authenticity but it is prohibited to destroy monasteries and that they should be protected.

Unfortunately it speaks volumes of your mentality.
Yes these isis are vile people we need to fight on all fronts, but at the same time no we do not should not and must not stoop to their low levels.
We as muslims we fight them and we show that we are not about what they are, we do not stand for what they stand, a wrong deed is not corrected by another wrong deed.
