Drug Testing

Has anyone ever considered, seriously or not, the clinical drug testing you can do?
It's basically trials for new drugs and the company pay you between £500-£3000 to be their guinea pig.
You pretty much have to sign a disclaimer taking responsibility for anything that goes wrong though.
What are peoples opinions on this? can be a lotta money for a student...

I would concider it, if I could be bothered to go to the place where they do such a thing, medical research is something worth supporting to improve health care, and to gain money for taking pills even better. Has anyone seen the shameless episode where Frank is taking part in one...that makes you be able to drink and not get pissed...

God no I don't think there is enough money in the world for me to be a lab rat for some company to test drugs on. I wouldn't dream of doing it. If I want £3000 then I'll work for a few months. It's just not worth destroying your health for cash.

There's always a few ads on uni noticeboards for people to give urine samples or join a sleep experiment or whatever, nothing potentially dangerous, I've never been suitable though.

its something really good to do and very rarely does anything go wrong. I was really thinking about doign it

...but IS it destroying your health? 'Most of the time', no.

Reply 7

How many times have you heard of people beocming seriously ill/dead as a result of a drug trial? Just the once? That's because it is very very very rare.

Reply 8

I'd do it.

No thanks

I wouldn't do that for any money really. There's easier and healthier ways of making money. Who's to say what the long-term consequences are of having those new drugs pumped into your body. They may not be evident from the start, but perhaps a few years down the line they may arise and it could be too late. It's not pleasant some of the stuff they do either: lying there with drips and needles inserted in orifices, being sick, having to go to the toilet every few times in an hour, hardly much sleep. They don't give you money that easily without you working for it - it's not just a case of lying there for a day and the money's in.

Remember, there's a good chance you'll end up in the placebo group

Reply 12

Depending on what the trial involved, yeah...I'd consider it.

Reply 13

Defintely not. I know the chances that something would go wrong is slim, but I still wouldn't want to risk my health for money to be honest.

I've thought about doing it and am signed up with a few companies, but I've never found a suitable trial yet.

I'm not going to argue my opinion on this. I would not have drugs tested on me. Period. You asked..I answered. If someone gave me ten pills and told me that 9 of them were fine and one was poison and that 'most of the time' I would be fine if I took a pill, I wouldn't do it.

Because they are testing something new on you they will have no idea what the side effects will be, how long they will last and how to treat you if something does go wrong. Also as someone said it's not simply a case of go get a shot and be given £3000.

I tested a vaccine for meningitis which is already used in Australia and several European countries, got £120 over 3 months for doing it. I wouldn't test anything too unknown though,

I joined here, but for girls they mostly want you to be either surgically sterile or post-menopausal.

I also joined here who offered me £100 to take my wisdom teeth out, but I don't have any :frown:
