Maybe do one at a time? Is the drinking really taking over? maybe that'd be best first..as I imagine that if you stop going out drinking for a bit you'll be around other smokers less so you cut down. But if it's really stressful you might find doing both at the same time very hard!
Your gp might be able to help, are you going cold turkey on smoking ? there is the nhs quitline and they might be able to help too!
Good luck!!

just cut back mate.

you could isolate yourself socially if you give up all together (before anyone bites my head off and says stuff like "you don't need alcohol to have fun" etc etc) I am simply making the observation that alcohol is a crucial social aspect of this country.

just get to the stage where you only drink socially.

are you one of those that smokes regularly or do you only smoke when you you drink?

are you an alcoholic or do you just drink an awful lot when you go out (which Im guessing is most-every night)

Well you have done the first stage admitting you have a problem, the next stage is to talk to someone about it.

I decided to give up alcohol last week, but we have very different reasons for doing so.

Just start slowly, it'd be very difficult to go cold turkey. Try drinking a glass of water or a soft drink in between each alcoholic drink, that way you'll only drink half as much as you normally do, and slowly try to include more soft drinks or water.

As for smoking, speaking to your GP would be a good idea, or contact the NHS quitline, as they can tell you different ways to cut down.

Good luck with it all, I'm sure you can manage it if you really put your mind to it.
