    Hello,
I'd like to hear some other people's opinions on this.....
Is there Examiner bias when it comes to grading A Level coursework?

I have planned to do my coursework on the works of Sylvia Plath and Salinger and today my friend suggested that using works by American vs. English authors may be a bad idea as examiners prefer British Literature to American Literature.
I'm not sure how true this statement is or if examiners are truly elitist and regard American Literature as inferior.

I don't believe there are any preferences to which type of literature you choose - I think they are introducing more american literature to future courses anyway. Furthermore, lots of universities will invest in american and other cultural literature - so having a range would be a great idea. Good luck!

Examiners do not mark your coursework, your teachers do. Then at random a sample of the whole cohort will be picked to be moderated by the Head of Department, or Subject Leader of English. Then a coursework moderator usually comes in to check marks that's it.

So you don't need to worry about moderators being biased. You should do whatever coursework text the syllabus allows you to do.
