Hi all, I'm really struggling writing an essay, just wondering if anyone might be able to help. I need to know how the motivations that led people to join crusades changed over the different crusades, particulaly between the 1st and 4th. Any help greatly appreciated - thanks

Remember what happened with the fourth crusade.
It didn't even go to Jerusalem, it ended up in the sacking of Constantinople. I think the motivations are always similar:
Wealth, indulgence, religion, spirituality, family honour and more.
What is key with the 4th is to remember the crusaders were en route toward Egypt. They didn't even tell Pope Innocent this. They did plan to attack Jerusalem BUT first wanted Egypt.
