I basically sold an xbox on ebay and the buyer hasn't paid and hes got the item. He sent false paypal emails to make it look like he paid but he didn't. Has this happend with anyone before? Do you get your money back? I've reported him to the police but nothings going to happen for at least 28 days.

You can't "falsify" a payment. Either he paid or hasn't. Either you have the money or you haven't. Open a claim on PayPal and go through the motions. Open a case too on eBay.

Did you not check on the PayPal website for a verified address? Then you'd see the payment never actually happened. Emails are easily spoofed, as you now know.

You've reported to police, I would say eBay aswell - at least it'll get him banned.

I think you're going to have to take this one as a learning curve.

I've had this happen to me but luckily I managed to spot them straight away; they send an email pretending to be from PayPal saying the payments been sent and will be completely transferred when the buyer receives it or you send a tracking number, something along those lines.

Realistically there's not much you can do I highly doubt they put their real address or anything, but you can report it to the police and let the visit the delivery address and report it to PayPal and eBay and I think there's a sellers insurance so you may get a refund.

Doesn't ebay offer some kind of seller protection?

Don't worry paypal will sort this .. they are actually really good and sorted something similar out for me .. it is a nuisance but just wait the 28 days

Yes, but you still need to take appropriate safeguards as a seller as well - it's not blanket protection for all situations. Details of the policy here: http://sellercentre.ebay.co.uk/how-ebay-protects-you
