Normal to be able to see blood vessels in eye?

I was just at the opticians earlier on today, and as usual they did the examination where they shine the light into your eyes. What I noticed when my optician was doing it was that when she asked me to look to the right/left etc, I could see the blood vessels quite clearly.

I didn't say anything at the time, because I assumed it was normal. But when I mentioned it afterwards to my mother she said it sounded a little strange; but she assumed it must have been reflected or something.

Is it quite a common thing to happen? I just have never seen it before, and I've had quite a few eye tests. :p:

Yep  Always happens to me anyway, so if there is something wrong, we both have it!

Lofty.
Yeah that happened to me too! I told the optician I could see the back of my eye, and she said it was perfectly normal  Something to do with the way the light bounces around inside the eyeball..... or something....

Ooh thanks you two, that's a relief. Yeah I think it's something to do with the retina reflecting the light, like with red eyes in photos.
