I'm quite introverted, and even though my house mates are nice, and I live in a small uni 'house' rather than a flat with only 4 others, I tend to keep myself to myself and only come out of my room to go to the bathroom or make a snack/meal/wash up in the kitchen. However due to this sometimes my house mates don't think I'm in the house when I am! It doesn't bother me much but I don't want to come across as weird! Is it alright to be like this or should I make more of an effort to come out of my room and socialise? We only see each other in the kitchen but if most people are in there everyone else generally comes in too to say hi and make their meal at the same time (I wait until everybody has finished and left before going in)

Simple question: are you happy as you are? If yes, carry on as is. If no, change your behaviour and see how things go.

That's exactly what I do. On the rare occasion I will watch a movie with them but most times I keep to myself. I like staying in my room tbh I've got a tv, snacks and my laptop so it's pretty good. You're not weird trust me.

I think it's always good to have a chat with your housemates and have some social time with them.

It's good that you're thinking about whether you spend too much time in your room. It might be good to take breaks whilst studying and chilling out in the lounge (if you have one).

Of course, if you're happy already then you can just carry on as usual. It'd be good for you to have some social time though, in my opinion.

I'll admit I did this a lot when I was a student too. It's fine if you're happy. If you're feeling a bit lonely/homesick/sad it might be worth spending a bit more time with the others though. It's not exactly uncommon to be a quiet person, it's not weird.

Thanks for all your replies, you've reassured me that I'm not a weirdo!

I haven't seen one of them since I came back earlier this week but she's been in the house much the whole time (she's in the room above me). Chances are they're probably not bothered if they see me or don't see me though..

if I pass them in the corridor/kitchen I smile & say a quick 'hi' and ask how their days been or whatever but i don't get beyond that really as I feel awkward and a bit unconfident making small talk, i'm not lonely being in my room or anything, in fact i quite like it. Thanks again for all your replies you've helped me accept being the introverted housemate
