    And further maths AS

If, hypothetically speaking, I drop FM at the end of AS with an A/B, with As in my other subjects - will I still be a strong candidate?

Yes. But, unsurprisingly, you would be an even stronger candidate if you continued FM to A2 and dropped history or geography. Although it partly depends on your grades at AS and whether you think you can get an A in FM A2. Getting AAAAa in maths, econ, history and geo plus AS FM is probably better than AAABa in maths, econ, geo, FM and AS history. As long as you get 3As to include maths and econ you have a good chance.

If you got a B in FM, I honestly don't think you'd have much chance. Maths is vital to economics and you've just listed 4 of the most competitive unis for it. Econ is even more competitive than Medicine at Cambridge I believe.

    Maths A
    History A
    Economics A
    Geography A
    Further Maths B

Say I get AAAAb, on top of speaking German and French, Duke of Edinburgh, National Citizenship, a good PS, finance work experience etc. Surely only having FM AS won't be too much a hinderence if I have a lot of other stuff/
