A prominent Saudi Arabian cleric has whipped up controversy by issuing a religious edict forbidding the building of snowmen, describing them as anti-Islamic.
Asked on a religious website if it was permissible for fathers to build snowmen for their children after a snowstorm in the country’s north, Sheikh Mohammed Saleh al-Munajjid replied: “It is not permitted to make a statue out of snow, even by way of play and fun.”

like i was sayin in other thread, muslims only prohibited from making images of things with souls. snowman is fiction.

"In the Two Sahih, it is related on the authority of Ibn Mas`ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) stated: The people who will receive the severest punishment on the Day of Resurrection will be the image makers.

It is also related in the same books of Hadith on the authority of Ibn `Umar (may Allah be pleased with both of them) that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) stated: Those whomake siwar (pictures, images, statues) will be punished on the Day of Resurrection and it will be said to them: Breathe soul into what you have created. This wording is reported by Al-Bukhari."

Isn't the whole "not making images of people" thing to prevent idolatry? Nobody is going to worship a snowman!

Wow, there's a laughable amount of rhetoric in this. Life in Europe is pretty great, to be honest. We've got a lot of civil liberties that aren't afforded to those in majority-Muslim countries, do you think there's reason for that?
