I have been told I argumentative to a fault, in particular by my mum. My mum's basic strategy is I either do as she says or she shuts up and walks away. When I was younger it would be 'do as I say or I'm walking out'-this would rarely be with no food/when I really needed her but a few times it was. Basically I am scared to disagree with and challenge people, eve if they treat me badly, because I tend to lose friends that way. In the past I have punished myself for doing something which I think they will disagree with because it is not OK to disagree with them, bad things could happen.

However this happens with people on TSR; if I criticise a point they were making, they get incredibly defensive and start taking it personally, including attacking me.

I don't know how to stop this, since ruminating and analysing is largely in my nature?

To be quite frank, I am amazed your parents haven't smothered you in your sleep.

The default position is that I am always correct and so whatever my opponent says is wrong so there's no point even arguing in most cases.
