Centuries ago the Catholic Church would have burned them alive or worse for their cartoon on JC, these days they wouldn't be allowed to do so because our societies have progressively evolved into a secular model.
As a result, we have such publications as an expression of freedom of thought and we tolerate them even if we don't like their product. We are free to express our dislike if we wish, within the provisions of the law. We are free to join in or ignore it altogether.
Absolutely no excuses for last week, those who don't understand western values because they are so firmly rooted in their own culture and religious beliefs have to make an effort to see more than a mere 'desire to offend'.
That's what the reprinting of 'that' cartoon means.
