I will be applying for student finance for the year 2015/16 and according to the student finance calculator, due to my parents income I will be getting roughly ~£3,955.
However, at the university I have firmed the cheapest accommodation is pretty much dead on £5000 and there is no guarantee I will be able to get the cheapest.
I know for those who's parents earn over the threshold the parents are supposed to make up the difference but for a variety of reasons I wanted to try and get through university on my own without running to my parents for financial help (some of it is pride and I want to be independent financially - I've been brought up so that the idea of running to my parents for financial help genuinely makes me cringe, but also I don't have a very good relationship with my mother and using the threat of no financial support over my head as leverage is exactly the sort of thing she is likely to do).
I currently have a part time job and am well aware I will need to work throughout my university course to be able to afford it - I'm just wondering is there any other financial support available - the amount of student loan I would get according to the calculator won't even cover accommodation cost
Little extra help (possibly)? watch

The amount of funding you will receive will be determined by your parent/s household income.
If the figures you gave us are correct then this would be the maximum we can offer you. You may be entitled to a bursary from your university so you can contact them about this & if you give the consent to us we can share your income information to them so that they can assess you automatically when you apply.
