    Hello

I haven't been a social worker but I have been a teacher and I always used to hear people say "it's hard work" "lots of pressure" "working all hours" etc. I never believed them - I thought it would be different for me - but unfortunately they were right!

Unfortunately I hear a lot of the same about social work. It sounds, like teaching, like a job which is supposed to be rewarding and involve helping people but which actually involves working all hours completing paperwork and then getting criticised for not working miracles.

That being said, it is a profession in demand so should offer job security, and it's a respectable graduate job with a decent starting wage. If you are good and stick at it, there are good management prospects, and at the heart of it you are helping some of society's most vulnerable people which must be rewarding.

Hopefully somebody else who has been a social worker can offer their perspective! You could also try the social work forum.
