Has anyone else not got their welcome pack yet? I'm feeling left out!

I have, but it's nothing to worry about just yet! It'll probably arrive within the next few days:smile:

Congrats on the offer!

à la PM?...

It would probably be easier as an international to buy the pack, though you could buy bedding in Durham for much cheaper than £30.

When do you find out who your academic children are? Because I haven't heard anything yet...

Another question  How smart are formals? What type of clothes should I be wearing? And is there anything I'll need *really* nice clothes for?

I'm getting in the swing of shopping

The "smartest" things are the balls - people often where more prom dress type things to those (but you don't have to be as smart as that). Formals are quite smart - if a girl - top/skirt or smart-casual dress will be fine, if a boy, wear a suit. You also have to wear gowns to formals, and generally no denim/trainers allowed. Maybe have one really nice item, and a few nice items. (Ha, I am so good at explaining here).

hi,

sorry for the massive delay in replying to your earlier questions, I don't really use this, and am backpacking around eastern europe in 3 hours time, so have been a little busy packing!

as i don't use this at all, email me ([email protected]) or facebook me!

Ents (the 'big' events of the year) are run on a ridiculously tight budget, so the saving you make is not too huge. However, as you'll later realise, any saving is better than none! And it'll be much easier to budget for it, and if you're lucky, you might be able to get your parents to pay for it!

ps: if anyone does know me, feel free to say hey! x

I'm gonna say hey because I'm pretty sure I met you when I stayed over for my interview. You're friends with Ben and Phil, right? Or am I making this up? Anyway, hi all the same!

Another couple of questions....

Can girls wear trousers to matriculation? My mum reads it as though girls *have* to wear skirts :frown:

And what's the deal with posters and stuff in your room? Do you end up paying a fortune for blutack marks and things like at other places? I don't want my room to be too boring and plain

I'm pretty sure you can wear trousers. The rules may vary by college though.

posters and blue tack are fine, the walls in most rooms will already have lots of marks on so it wont matter. :-)

Reply 595

I want to hang up proper pictures :frown: There is that sort of picture hook stick on thingy that leaves no mark... wonder if I'm allowed to use that...

Not at Trev's but still... :frown:

Reply 596

You can always buy one from Tesco if you get there and decide you need it.

My room came with a desk lamp, but I brought another one with me because it was nice to have some softer light instead of the overhead fluorescents.

Reply 597

An extra lamp is good as a bedside table lamp as well - saves moving one around all the time.

Reply 598

All rooms in Trevs had lamps, but as previously said, I bought another one to put on my desk.

Saying that though, the refurbished rooms have a LOT of lights - one on the ceiling, a bedside lamp and a light strip thing above the desks.

You might as well wait until you get to your room and if you decide you need one, then nip to Woolworths

Reply 599

I'm looking at applying to Trev's next year, where is it in Durham, Near Modern Languages at all? What are the rooms like? Is it formal?

I really don't know durham very well!
