Wow am I the only person who's getting a lift up there? I feel like I'll be missing some sort of amazing bonding sesh on the train/free bus... :P

I think the most bonding there'll be on the train is looking over at other young people, and trying to figure out if they're the right age to be applying to university, and hoping they're not either a current student or someone younger who lives in Durham.

...or is that just me?

Gotta agree with this...I won't really talk to anyone I don't know, unless they start talking to me. Which is unlikely, as I'll probably have my headphones in and look unsocial :p:. Unless someone sits next to me and starts talking before I get my Zen out...dunno why I'm dwelling on this anyway

Speaking of trains, my tickets arrived today .

Let us know what they say . Mildert's a good college to choose . I think I would've applied there if not Trevs tbh. Hopefully it turns out for the best . And besides, Mildert's opposite Trevs so...you can easily come and visit us :p:.

Just wanted to say that some strangers from Trevs helped me out a ton last night when my friend was having an especially apocalyptic night out and I was absolutely at my wits' end, and they were seriously some of the most amazing and generous people I've ever met. Anyone from Trevs is now awesome in my book. :five:

Awww, that's nice to hear . Good old Trevelyanites .

Just found out yesterday that there's at least one person that left my school last year at Trevs now hehe. Didn't know her at school though, just know the name. But still :p:.

37 days till open day now

(on another note, my WMP is being nice at the moment hehe. Only playing songs I like lol).

Hi everyone
New here, and I have an offer from Trevs
Sounds like an awesome college to go to.
Hopefully I'll be able to meet some of you at the open days, or maybe on the trains, although I will more likely be antisocial

Heya, new to this student room thing. So hellooo future-maybe-trevelyanites
Hm, I never went to an open day at Durham... Not organised enough. I got called for an interview though in march last year (castle wouldn't have me)... and missed my train home by ten seconds... had to fork out £93 to pay for the new ticket (after spending four hours trying to contact some member of my family so they could transfer the money into my very empty bank account. I know the layout of Durham train station by heart now. At least, last year they had miniature trees in bright orange pots. The benches were bright orange too):/ so my advice is bloody well don't miss your train. That hill the train station is perched on is deceptively steep! Despite this awkward and expensive experience, Durham is def my choice of uni! And Trevs is lovely, the ppl are so welcoming and laid-back. Can't wait to go there in october! This gap-year thing is proving to be a tad soul-destroying...
Hope you guys enjoy your open day!
ps: any one else doing thoelogy?

did you have an advance ticket? you can use them on earlier/later trains, you just don't get a guaranteed seat.

at least, that's what i thought :s-smilie:

If you get a ticket for a specific train, then it's only valid for that train unless there's a problem with the trains, like if one is cancelled, or you miss a connection 'cause one is delayed type of thing.

Warnings about Trevs, as a first year student here:

- it is heavily biased towards gays.
- there are many gays.
- not that that is a bad thing.
- but yeah there are, so expect lots of musicals and plays. Which your gay friends will cajole you into going to see.
- also this means that the jukebox is on a constant loop of High School Musical theme, Abba, Celine Dion, Bonnie Tyler ad infinitum
- the food is bleh.
- the new JCR president is a woman.

But don't worry about that.

Oh. oops :s-smilie: the ticket inspectors on my trains never seem to mind though.

Not sure why it's a warning that the JCR president is female...

The 'gay' warnings aren't so bad for me - I'm a 'straight gay best friend'. ^_^

Ooh, is the food really that bad?

Reply 798

Is it really that biased towards gays :s-smilie:. Not that I have a problem with that at all. Maybe I'll pick up a gay best friend? who knows ? Or even a "straight gay best friend". And I shall go and see those plays etc haha.

And what's wrong with Abba . HSM, well, yes, problem. Don't really know the others, but Abba's great

The food can't be that bad, surely :s-smilie:

And what's wrong with a female JCR president .

Reply 799

Abba? Christ sake, it's hardly rock'n'roll is it.
