there are laundry rooms on certain landings and not in every block so the first time you need to do washing is a bit of an adventure! the washing machines arent too bad.. dryers arent even worth trying they just make things warm and dont dry at all in my experience

need 20ps and £1s to use the washing machines.. I think it's £1.20.. though I may be remembering it wrong

One piece of advice is to remember when your washing is going to finish because if you forget you may come back to damp washing sitting in the mess of washing powders on the side

Okay, and what about ironing?
Should I bring a drying rack? Do you have to buy washing powder yourself or..?
I swear I did not think about anything practical on the open days!

there are college irons as you are not allowed your own (safety reasons) they are crap though but tbh apart from the odd white shirt I havent ironed anything.. a good shake out and hanging neatly on a drying rack works
Washing powder you definitely need and a drying rack is useful

Also on a completely different note, if you want your door to stay open then you'll need a door stop

Haha, not allowed your own irons.. funny times. Some dresses I have will need a bit of ironing I think, I should probably get some more low maintenance clothes...
Ok, I'll write those down.
Thank you

I think it's mainly because ironing in the rooms will set the fire alarm off, but there's probably a safety issue too (kettles do the same so you have to be careful there)

Okie dokie. Don't worry, I'm not a rebel. I don't want people to hate me for setting fire alarms off. :o:

hehe the best one was when someone ran a bath and forgot about it.. water got very hot and steamed up the bathroom so when someone opened the door the landing fire alarm went off!!!

I know this has already been answered but I thought I'd do it too just to make you even more excited about the hexagonal college on the hill!!!!

nah, Trevs is the work hard play hard college. We are well known for getting good results but this does not mean we all stay in to study.. there are obviously some who do (). Also Trevs has a great bar with great prices

AWESOME! Not much more needed to convince me

There are more international students than most people realise and lots of people who are international students but live in the UK so you won't be alone on that one

tbh you don't really realise.. (unless you get one annoying person who likes to make a mess!!) You'd think there'd be a fight for showers but once everyone is settled in it is unlikely that two people will have the same morning routines. The one thing that is annoying is the number of people who have to share the washing machines... my advice is to wash clothes when most people are out or asleep (i.e. if you have a 9am get up early and get your clothes washed)

Hmm.. You said the dryers barely work.. So how exactly do you dry your clothes? ... :s-smilie:

Short answer: No
Longer: They are currently refurbishing some of the blocks atm. Tbh although the new blocks/rooms appear to have more storage, the older blocks are just as good!

What subject are you doing??
(no prizes for knowing what I do :p:)

Law  .. Hopefully I'm not the only one..! Ha ha.. Physics penguin.. hmm hard one
Speaking of which I rememberedanother question: Read that during freshers there's like a dinner/party for law students... True? Where is this held?

Early returns
I know for returning students the early returns scheme isnt available this year.. I think due to refurb work... but I don't know about rules for Freshers arriving early.

-Don't know if you'd know, but do you only get your room on Sunday, the day before freshers starts?

Anyway thanks for answering..... I can't wait.....! If I get in that is..)

On my letter from Trevs it says accomodation will be available from Thurs 30 Sept and that there will be a booking form and charges for this in the August pack. Hope this helps.

Couple of corrections/edits:

1) Washing machines are £1.60 and driers are 40p if you use them (and you'll need to dry things twice if you want them properly dry), you will hence need lots of 20ps and £1s. The 20ps are also useful for the pool table/table football (not that I use these but still) so I'd advise you to keep a stash of them.

2) Non-refurb room doors stay open, only non-refurb don't so unless you're in refurb (you'll probably be told where you are by your freps for the first term and you choose your rooms thereafter) you don't need a doorstop. For reference, blocks G, H and J are presently refurb though I think ground floor rooms might be being refurbed this summer.

3) Back to washing - I've coped without a drying rack this year, but I don't mind spending 40 or 80p a week on driers. A lot of people however do have them, but it's up to you.

ach sorry, not lived in for a year.. the driers nr C never worked for me

About moving in early.. I was the last to arrive on my landing which made getting to know people a little tricky seen as everyone had already started to chat and already done all the I'm doing such and such and come from this place etc.. also awkward to be trying to organise your room when you feel you should go meet people... but really don't worry about it you'll find everyone is in the same boat and you'll get to know nearly everyone in your year if not everyone in college soon enough!!

Hey guys,
So I've pretty much read this thread back to front.. all 69 pages (no pun intended)
I have an offer from Trevs starting October.. Can't wait!
But I have a couple of worries/questions....

I read in another thread "Trevs students love essays and hate to party/drink" -to what extent is this true.. obviously doesn't seem this way! Just reassure me!?

Another question... How many international students are there per year at Trevs? (I am one - live in UK though now)

And I know you guys said the bathroom sharing per 6 people or so isn't bad..........everyone gets used to it right?

And last one! - are all the blocks refurbished yet? cos the posts on this were a couple years old!

Sorry for the questions.. I know they're not exactly... well anyway..! I can't find the answers anywhere else, and I love Trevs in every other way so far and I haven't even seen it

1.LIES

2.In my experience there is approx. per undergrad year
1/2 north americans
1 Australian
5/6 Asians
1/2 Scandinavian
1/2 Irish
3/4 Islanders (IOM, Jersey etc)
2/3 other European
also, many of the postgrads are international

3. In first year, I had no problems sharing a bathroom (except on A1 where theres 18 ppl to 1 shower). In 3rd year I lived in refurb theres plenty of showers, tho some gross boys kept pissing all over the floor. Next yr I get ensuite wooo

3. Theres refurb going on in college this summer, they are doing a lot of the ground floor area, I can't remember the exact details. non-refurb is fine much nicer than other uni accomm Ive seen, I lived in it all of first year.

Ironing I barely did any of, but the college provides fine. Drying rack is a good idea if you can easily bring one up - otherwise you can buy one in the Gates shopping centre. Getting one to share might also be an idea - last term I couldn't bring mine back up because I was on the train, so I just used my girlfriend's. Washing powder yes, you need to provide (as well as £1 and 20p coins for the washing machines!). They have driers, but they don't work very well.

I lived in C block first term, and haven't known anyone to have had door issues there. :frown:

I decided to move in a day early, which I found worked quite well since I met a few people and was able to sort my room out before the general rush and panic. And yeah, it's really weird that in first term I didn't know at all the people I lived with for two months last term.

I lived in A-block last term, and although the numbers don't sound good, I can't remember anyone ever having a real problem trying to find a shower. Ollie always went over to B-block no matter whether our shower was occupied...

The main gist of what they're doing this Summer is ripping up the ground floor (apart from J-block) to put in new pipes, and they might be doing something to the bar as well. I don't know if that means they'll be refurbishing any ground rooms (that'd only mean A and B anyway). And a lot of people (especially the current Treasurer) prefer the non-refurb by a long way.

Reply 1398

Why did he go to B, the A ground shower was perfectly fine, I always used that one unless it was occupied! Much nicer than B ground.

If you live on A1 (where I was last term) you have the choice of using the shower over the bath on the side nearest B, the A ground shower, B ground or the ones on the B-E corridor. FInding a shower isn't an issue, if necessary just go up/downstairs or over to the next block.

Yeah, they're doing something to the bar, something involving extending a bit and putting in more fire exits I believe? I dunno. And yes, if you want to hear a rant /against refurb talk to the treasurer...

Quote, darling. :p: I think he started using that shower in first or second term, and just stuck with it for familiarity's sake.
