Hi, I really like Trev because apparently it's so musical  - however, how is the postgrad community? I have no problems with undergrads  but I don't want to be surrounded by people 5 years younger than me all the time.... (I'm 24 years old)

Trevs has a really strong MCR community, I'm sure there will be plenty of people your own age for you to socialise with :-)

Hello,
I got allocated to Tevs, and I'm really happy about that!
Although I know there are pianos there, would a keyboard fit in 1st year rooms?

I'm sure when I lived in I saw a couple of people with keyboards in their rooms . Bear in mind that most students share for one term though so if/when you share your roommate might not be too happy! Having said this you can specify this on your accom choice form so if you share 1st term they'll hopefully put you with someone that's not likely to care and if you share after 1st term you get to choose who with and hopefully you'll find someone who doesn't care!

Received my offer from Trevs, back in March. Went to the post offer open days, on the Monday evening - Tuesday morning. Had a great time, roll on October.

Hi! I'm international student from California. I'm coming to Durham for my MSc in Paleopathology. Here is my predicament: I applied for University College and honestly thought that's where I was going, I was mistaken, though, and was devastated to find that I would not be staying there. I chose University because it has spacious kitchens, ensuite facilities, and because it is so old. I love cooking for myself and was truly looking forward to using the big kitchens and going shopping for myself. It would also have been nice to be able to wash in my own room. And I just love old things and would truly have enjoyed being a part of University. So, I was absolutely devastated when I got allocated to Trevelyan. To be honest, from the pictures, it seems very depressingly industrial and dark. I hate that it's either an entire meal plan or none at all for the same price, which is £2,000 more than I was planning on paying, and I'm incredibly wary of what food will be served. My parents think this is better so I'll actually be eating, but I am really worried about having to eat a ton of starchy or greasy food instead of being able to roast veggies and meats on my own. And sharing bathroom facilities with a flat full of people, especially who may have been out drinking, sounds quite awful. I don't mean to rail against your College, but it really doesn't seem like a place I'd want to live. I am glad to be a part of it, though. I'm considering private housing in Old Elvet, though it's farther away from the College, but not my classes. It is cheaper and nicer, but my parents are worried about safety especially in going back and forth between it and College and, again, me actually eating and the time preparing food would take. I fully understand their concern, but I just don't think Trevelyan is right for me. Could anyone help lay my mind to rest either way?
Thank you very much.

Trevelyans rooms are grouped on hexagonal landings, which are isolated from the corridors by glass walls and a glass door. There are 6 rooms on each landing, with 1 bathroom and 1 kitchenette (which has a sink, fridge, microwave etc.).

The landings are fairly spacious and a perfect place to socialise with you neighbours.

At the start of the year, you can choose not to have your lunches as part of the catering package. You then get a refund for x amount instead.

Trevelyan is a very friendly and social college, it is also a lot more relaxed than university college.

Hope this helped you..

Hey, I was wondering about the landings - people say they're good socialising spaces but is it completely random as to who's where? I know at Warwick they try to match similar people to the same corridor, I was wondering if Durham/Trevs does something similar?

Trevs is the absolute best college. Ignore any hate.

I actually am a student at Aidan's, but my boyfriend is at Trevs so I ended up visiting a lot this year. I became completely attached to the college - despite being an outsider, everyone I met was so so friendly, and genuinely took me in as their own.

While I obviously didn't get the food, I have a general idea of what it's like to live in. Your landings will be very close-knit, nice communities to help you settle in. From second term you can choose who you share a landing with, and can even share a room with them (sharing is likely but not necessary - you can opt to not share first term and then choose someone to share with after Christmas if that's less daunting for you). As with all colleges, you will have all the potatoes.

The bathrooms are shared and, unfortunately, a little underwhelming. The showers are a bit crap, but the baths are a nice relaxing thing if you like that. (I would travel down from Aidan's just for a bath. they're fab.) Generally, you'll find that you're not having to wait to use the bathroom, and if someone's in just use the opposite landing's. Shared bathrooms are not an issue at all.

The formals are really fun, the food at them are great, and then the entertainment afterwards is generally very fun. Unplugged bar nights are THE BEST for open-mic style stuff, and everyone in college goes.

They have loads of societies, all of which are really welcoming and regularly meet. (I'd strongly recommend Games Society as their President, but I'm not that biased!)

Apply to Trevs. Trevs is love, Trevs is life.

Hey, i'm a 2nd year student at Trevs. Vegetarian/vegan, I can't speak for the latter however there are 2 vegetarian options at every meal, at least there was last year. I have friends who are vegan, and they didn't seem to struggle. From what I remember there isn't really a theatre group because the musical group is so large, so any noticeable productions are musical apart from the small-scale Panto. Afraid i'm not a combined honours student so I can't help you much there.
