I just had a quick question about Turnitin and plagiarism. How exactly does the detection system work? If there are words/sentences strewn across an essays that are similar, will that be picked up by the system? Or does it mainly look at blocks of text?

It'll pick up sentences if they're word for word? That's why it's always better to paraphrase

It compares every sentence/phrase to their database (they have a biiiiiiiiiig database) and flag it up for the lecturer to decide whether or not you've plagiarised.
