Being in a relationship vs. Being single..

Which do people prefer from their experiences? Just that ive heard some people saying how they love being single because of the freedom, etc but then others have absolutely hated being single.. Do you reckon it refects the type of person you are, for example needy people prefer being in a relationship whereas more independent people prefer being free and single. Just interested really!

I'd say it depends on your circumstances.
i.e. when I go on my year abroad, it would be best to be single.

Sometimes I love being single. Sometimes I don't.

I'd say I was quite independant and not particularly needy...but sometimes you just want to be with someone.
i prefer being in a reltaionship, but when your busy and have work/tours/exercises, its kind of hard especially on the gf, your off busy with army mates and there left standing, so it depends on circumstance, unless of course it is that special lady:rolleyes:

i much prefer being single, but i love the relationship i'm in and plan on being in this one for a good long while, so my preference is kind of over-ridden by the fact that i know it's good for me to be in this relationship.
as above it all depends

was in a relationship for 2 1/2 years and am currently enjoying being single, when your single you learn to love yourself, depend on yourself and work through your own problems without running to your other half, theres noone else to put first, you can travel and you can flirt with who you like. another persons small actions cant hurt you and bring your world crashing down like they can if your in a relationship (where say even a lack of reply to a phone call can make you sad) and you can have hot boys look at you knowing that you can give them the eye back...

im enjoying it for now but im sure eventually id like to be ina relationship again..ill just wait for it to happen naturally though...

Before I met my (now ex) bf, I was perfectly happy being single. And even when we were together I missed the independence of being able to do what I wanted, when I wanted, and not having to think about anyone else. But now that I'm single again I miss having someone who's always there for me, I miss cuddles and kisses, and the feeling of being in love, and having someone you can always talk too.

So I dunno. Being single has its advantages, but I think if it was with the right person, I'd be much happier in a relationship

It depends on how much I like someone. I used to hate being in a relationship, but now I definately don't want to be single, not for a long while :P

Depends alot IMO.

I'm in a long term relationship and it's great. I wouldn't want anything else HOWEVER it's also nice to be single. Although I am happy in my relationship and I am totally and utterly in love with my boyfriend I have felt at times since I've just moved to uni (and moved 200 miles from boyfriend) that it would be nice to be single and have some freedom, just while I'm settling in.

Silly things like I feel guilty for dancing with lads from my uni as I have a boyfriend etc but ahwell.

If I was single I would hate being single and want to be in a relationship wouldn't I? lol

Overall my answer has to be relationships are better....always going to get kisses and cuddles....and sex!

Hmm, interesting discussion, and I was having a similar conversation with my mate last night.
Personally I've been single for a long time (well if I'm honest my whole life...) and I know I want to find a relationship more than anything. However, I'm patient and astute enough to not want to force it to happen with just anyone and that there may be a bit more waiting/getting frustrated ahead yet.

I think this is very true. I've matured a lot in the last year or so and I think that being single has meant I've had to gain love and respect for myself because there's nobody there to say it for me (well there's family and friends - though that's not quite the same - but I'm still grateful for them).

Yeah I'm doing a year abroad too and I doubt I would be if I had a gf. I don't know if I'd be the same person now if I'd been in relationship (s) since 16 or whatever. Conversely I don't know if being single hasn't become such a part of who I am that I might miss it or change when I do get in a relationship...hopefully not, but that remains to be seen.

A lot of people are needy I think, but I'd rather be on my own than be with someone just for the sake of it. For example I was talking to a girl at work the other day who said she'd only been single for about 2 weeks since she was 15 (now 20), and had been with different lads. Seems a bit insecure to me, or maybe I'm just a bit jealous...:p:

single: freedom, able to chat anything/anyone up/ dont use all your contract on one person.
Couple: kisses, cuddles, presents!, sex, use ALOT of money going out etc, security, safety.

i didnt like being single at all, but i enjoyed being able to see my mates whenever i liked (but half the time they were with their otherhalves anyways) i prefer coupledom 100% now
u need som1 that you can look in 2 their eyes and say i love you every once in a while.
i prefer relationship 100%.

Ditto. I quite like being single, I can do things for me without having to constantly think about another person. However, with the right person a relationship can be great.
I don't mind being single but prefer being in a relationship. I like to have someone close to me. I get lonely when I'm single but I guess its better then putting up with problems in a relationship
Not quite on topic but i think it's a bit better being single as a girl rather than a guy cos if a girl needs a cuddle she can just go to her friends whereas a guy would never ask for a cuddle from a mate, and don't tell me guys don't need cuddles. Although i do love the warmth and enveloping feeling of my big man.
^thats why we keep teddy's.
I'm actually enjoying being single at the moment, which is a bit of a novelty. I would like another relationship but I'm not about to enter into one for the sake of it and there's no one I'm really into at the moment...So until the right person comes along, I go for single

Generally i prefer being in a relationship. I don't mind being single but i like having that special someone who i can hug, kiss, and love and tell everything to. I also think being in love is one of the best feelings you can experience.
