Placements in clinical and forensic settings, are hard to arrange due to restrictions about confidentiality, indemnity and the expense of getting DBR (background checks), which are costly. At my place of work, we have to turn down such requests because of this, but also because students are quite limited in what they can do, and our patients prefer not to have lots of people sitting in on treatment sessions.

However, there are often arrangements for universities that have a built in placement year where these issues are sorted out and there are arrangements in place to accommodate students, but these tend to be specific to a particular university. The other option would be to get work part time as a support worker or Heathcare assistant beforehand, when you would be a formal employee and have many of the costs paid for as part of your employment.
