Has anyone ever been to summer camp with Camp Leaders? I was hoping for some experiences.

And has anyone applied for the support staff role?

I'm an introvert and have social anxiety but that's put me off doing so many things. I've always wanted to travel to America and i'd get office experience as support staff so it would be an incredible opportunity, but i'm nervous about the social aspect.

    What are Summer Camps like?

    Hi!

I went to to summer camp with Camp Leaders in 2014 and will be doing again in 2015.

I loved camp. Absolutely the best thing I've ever done. I was a specialist counselor so was much more involved with the kids than you would as a member support staff. Summer camps are incredible places and it's pretty difficult to put into words. It's a very fun, noisy, intense environment however, for staff, it's also tiring and can be quite stressful sometimes.

If you were part of the office staff, you would tend to deal with counselors and parents more than you would kids. From what I imagine it could be a fairly stressful role as on many occasions, you're the first port of call for any parents with children at camp. You would obviously also carry out a lot of admin as there are a lot of people to organise! A huge positive for you would be that support staff are in the US longer than counselors and, depending on the camp, tend to get more days off.

    Hi there,

If you want to head out the States in the summer but don't want to work with children have you considered our Work America programme?

It's a great way to spend your summer in the States working in lots of different roles from a ride attendant at a theme park in Maryland to working in a souvenir store in California. There's plenty of options available for you to check out.

If you want to find out how other people have found the Work America programme you can check out their blogs.

If you have any questions let me know

    Sam
