As I watched my daughter commence her nursing studies, I mused "I wish I'd done that", study that is not nursing. Leaving school with just the recommend of my PE teacher seemed sensible at the time.
That was it, 3 years ago, after a vague enquiring telephone call to the OU I was hooked. At Christmas I received a first class honours degree in psychology, who'd of imagined that, not me, thats for sure. Whats more I loved every second of it and more importantly beat my daughter :-)
So today, I look forward to starting the full time MSc in Health Psychology at Surrey this coming September and my daughter, because of my incessant talk of psychology over the last three years, starts her MSc psychology conversion at Hertfordshire the same day.
26 years ago as I first held her in my arms, I'd never imagined that she'd one day spark something new and great in my life. I am a lucky man.
I don't know if I count as a mature student? Comparing myself to the offers on the cheese counter, more a farmhouse vintage I guess. This masters should I be successful will coincide with my 50th. Oh to be a 20 or 30 something mature student :-)
Still plenty of time for beer, motorcycling, traveling and perhaps a PhD :-)
