I read somewhere that Cambridge offers 4200 places, expecting 3500 to attend...
Does that mean 17% miss their offers???????

Roughly 250 maths students miss their offers because of how Cambridge give maths offers out. Not all firm Cambridge, though the vast majority do. And some just miss their offers. 17% isn't terribly high, as they do tend to give out hard offers to those they're not sure about to see if they're really Cambridge material.

Go to http://www.study.cam.ac.uk/undergrad...ly/statistics/ and try something along these lines...
Choose a particular year e.g. 2014, then select only Offers and Acceptances, All Colleges, All Courses, then display as Course. You get a graph showing total offers and acceptances for each subject - if you hover over the columns you see the actual figures.
You can choose different options e.g. Last 5 years, Offers and Acceptances, A Course then e.g. Maths. BTW that particular display must be quite worrying for Maths offer-holders!Last edited by ageshallnot; 17-01-2015 at 17:14.
