Overall, I ultimately made the wrong decisions and acted too quickly when making my decisions, on thinking I'd like to go somewhere else for University so if I phone up my firm and insurance choice will they release me from my choices? If so, if I use Extra will the University I choose still consider my application?

You can do this- however, before you do so, it would be a good idea to contact the university you're interested in to confirm they have places. Some courses end up in Extra because the universities have failed to withdraw them, not because they are still making offers.

Equally, remember that if you apply through Extra, you won't have an insurance choice, so make sure the uni you chose is one you have a reasonable chance of getting into.
