A2 Maths implicit functions question Watch

1. hi I was wondering if anyone could help me with this question ...

a) given that x=tany

i) find dy/dx in terms of y

ii) find dy/dx in terms of x (using the fact that 1+ (tany)^2 = (secy)^2

b) use part a to find dy/dx in terms of x when y = tan^-1(x)

i can do part i), but i can't do the rest. thanx

Hiya,

For part II, use of x=tan y and tan y= root(sec^2-1) to say that x=root(sec^2-1) and put that value in to dx/dy

B) chain rule where y= (Tanx) ^-1
