I wish I had the link now, but days ago I was looking at a UKIP document from 2010 on UKIP's welfare policy. The document was drafted by policy makers but was abandoned.

The document suggested that the unemployed should not be given the vote because it is "dangerous", and that welfare claimants are "parasitical scroungers".

I questioned the document by contacting UKIP on Facebook, but had to like their page first. I "liked" and sent them a message. The response was quick:

    "Don't be silly."

I was instantly banned from their page.

The document itself can still be found somewhere on the internet on a pdf format. Apparently, UKIP deleted the document from their archives and website because they were doing a purge of some of the more right wing elements of the party.

What does anyone think of this?

But the policy makers didn't think so.

They're repackaging. They have to, if they want to sell themselves. That doesn't mean that at least some of them won't still have those views, and other less pleasant views, as evident from candidates they have had to get rid of as they were a bit too outspoken.

In defense of UKIP, though (and I really don't like what UKIP stands for), their views on welfare claimants are not unlike those of some of the Tories (Iain Duncan Smith has referred to people on ESA as "the stock"), and when he was called out on that by Labour, he defended himself by saying that Labour MPs, too, have used that term. So, it seems like looking down on people who are in need of state support is quite popular .
