M304 - Motion to Protect Denmark Street, The Rt. Hon. InnerTemple MP

This House believes that Denmark Street in London, also known as Tin Pot Alley, is an area of special cultural and historical interest.

The area is home to many music stores and music venues. These were often frequented by the likes of the Rolling Stones, David Bowie, The Who, Eric Clapton and The Kinks. It is a place where many musicians, who are now big names, cut their teeth.

With the arrival of Cross Rail and a regeneration of the area, there stands a risk that the atmosphere will be lost. The landscape risks being changed forever.

This House believes that Denmark Street should be protected, in much the same way as Hatton Garden is. The following steps should be taken:

    1) Provide conservation status to Denmark Street to ensure that the character and atmosphere, in so far as architecture, is preserved; and
    2) Allow for rates exemptions of the musical stores and venues to ensure that the character and atmosphere generally is preserved.

A big massive Aye, which has nothing to do with the fact that I often visit Denmark Street :P But yes, it should be protected.

Culture :P The fact that generations of famous musicians have visited Denmark Street. We should want plenty more to do so in the future.

In all honesty, as a tourist I hadn't heard of this place until there was a motion here about it. Hell I currently live here and still hadn't heard of it.

    Exactly.
It's really aimed at one public and not worth the hassle.
Plus: the monarchy was infinitely more profitable than this (not to mention the political advantages) and yet you REJECTED what the PEOPLE wanted just to fulfill your absolute desire of sounding cool.
So, in short: preservation is not debatable on TSR. It's been shown many times defending a point irrationally is more accepted than the alternative.
So my definitive answer is nay.

PS: Not directing the last bit at tehFrance or anybody specific. Quoted him to complement what he said.
