COMPLETELY depends on the girl, obviously.

Reply 2

Yes the two rules: don't mention aid work or that you like to sleep in your mum's underwear.

Reply 3

don't mention aid work

Ok... but why? What do they think? That I won't have much time for a relationship?

Reply 4

I'd think it was very sweet and that it showed that the guy cared for others. After all, a judge of someone's character is not how they treat those as lucky as them but how they treat those who are less fortunate than them. x

Reply 5

I think its a good thing, I can't understand why anyone would disapprove.

Girls like men who are agressive, dominating hunter-gatherers. How is volunteering aid work going to provide meat for the table? They don't want your namby-pamby 'sensitivity' go beat somone to near death in a public place and watch the chicks flock to you.

my girlfriend dumped me because i bought a poppy.

Reply 8

I think it could sound like you're trying too hard to impress, which I don't like at all, although I know some girls that would like it.

You're joking right?

Mine shot me in the leg with my air-rifle and called me 'a poof'.

I'm so upset. I think I'll turn emo.

Reply 11

Mine cut off my hands 'cos I was emo, apparently I was showing too much feeling.

Reply 12

Ok... I think it's great if a guy does charity work and it would actually make me like him more.

Reply 13

Exactly.

Reply 14

Charity work increases reproductive fitness. It is positively selected for.

Reply 15

Surely you'd tell her because it's just something you do and dating is about getting to know a person better... screw the implications! Would you avoid telling somebody you participated in a sport in case they thought you were showing off?

Reply 16

I gave a pound to the heart foundation, so my girlfriend killed my parents and my dog and then cut off my balls screaming "You won't be needing these, because you might as well be a woman!".

Heart-breaking.

Reply 17

mention it dont use it as your opening line

Reply 18

They're all taking the piss.

The only reason a girl would object is if she had a personal hatred for the specific charity you were working for. Otherwise, why not tell her? If you're going to date her she'll find out eventually, and it's hardly a BAD thing - in fact it's a good one!

Reply 19

As long as you don't make a big deal out of it. If it comes up in conversation then mention it, but don't suddenly jump out with "by the way I do charity work". Subtle self promotion is good but not 'I do this, how great am I?'. I don't see how anyone could see charity work as being a bad thing.
