Apart from loving good books (who doesn't?) I've always been particular to beautiful endings - that is the last sentence or paragraph, not the whole conclusion of the story. When a book has kept me addicted to it, I always expect it to finish off with something wonderful. So I was wondering what your favourite last sentences/paragraphs are?
Obviously this will result in some massive spoilers, so I suggest putting the title of the book in bold and red in front of the actual quote for those who have not read the book yet and still want to.
Gabriel García Márquez, Love in the Time of Cholera
"The Captain looked at Fermina Daza and saw on her eyelashes the first glimmer of wintery frost. Then he looked at Florentino Ariza, his invincible power, his intrepid love, and he was overwhelmed by the delayed suspicion that it is life, more than death, that has no boundaries.
'And how long do you think we can keep up this goddamn coming and going?' he asked. Florentino Ariza had kept his answer ready for fifty-three years, seven months and eleven days and nights. 'Forever,' he said."

-1984, George Orwell
"But it was all right, everything was all right, the struggle was finished. He had won the victory over himself. He loved Big brother."
While i could write enough love for this book to crash the whole site, my love for this ending sentence is simply the dystopian nature of it all.
Orwell spends the whole book telling the reader that you can't beat Big Brother, while following the life of a guy who was trying. Like most Hollywood BS, he keeps the idea of hope and love prevailing in this world of horror and chaos very much alive and center-point throughout. In the end, he simply repeats the idea that you can't beat Big brother and has the main character fail.
Anything less, say if Winston HAD beaten Big Brother, would have disgraced the whole nature of the novel. I'm very glad Orwell stayed true to the dystopian genre and didn't let it happen.Last edited by Skyy9432; 22-01-2015 at 21:57. Reason: Made it red :D
