Queen Mary...rejection?

Is it true that Queen Mary are likely to offer places to weaker applicants as they feel that the stronger applicants are more likely to reject their place and go somewhere else instead?
That's what i noticed happened to the stronger applicants last year at my school (they got rejections) whilst the weaker ones got offers.
However i am dealing with a statistic of about 3!
I know that most people worry if they have high enough grades to get into medical school but now i am genuinly worried that my grades are too high to get into QMUL...am i just being irrational?

omg

you can't be serious

EDIT: sorry was a bit harsh

They have no way of knowing who has what offers. Also all medical schools do not expect to be put as firm by all applicants, hence they make more offers than places. Queens probably give out lots of offers compared to how many their medical school can accomodate, rather than only to those who are liklely to accept the offer.
Anyway, if your such a strong applicant, by your own argument you will receive 'better' offers anyway!

not getting in!

maybe the people at your school messed up their interviews or had a poor PS. A friend of my brothers was invited to interview but he botched it up because it was his first, so he ended up with offers from imperial/ucl/kings but rejection by BL

i dnt think i will gt any other offers -messed up my BMAT

everyone thinks they've messed up their BMAT  including me

I don't know why all 3 got rejected, but having AAAA doesn't mean other areas of your UCAS form will also be amazing. A better explanation would be that BLs admissions procedure is based less on grades. There's no way having good grades reduces your chances of admission, because a lot who do gain admission actually have excellent grades (at least the guy I know).

Thats reassuring!
Maybe they'll want me 2....
did u apply there?>

nope:tongue:

Teehee, I wonder what our militant BL contingent on here will make of this

i think BL looks for something that other med schools don't look for.

e.g. your PS should be about what you learnt from your work experience etc

p.s. it's Barts and the London, not Queen Mary. urgh.

Not true at all. BL make offers to people they like, and who they think will a) fit in, b) enjoy the course, c) hopefully get involved and most importantly d) are most likely to graduate...

How are you definining stronger applicants? Great UCAS form, or an actual great candidate?

BL have a grading system for your UCAS form. If you score over a certain amount based on the criteria (which I am not telling any of you  ), then you get an interview. This is why maybe it looks like 'weak' people get in, as you have to have a form that shows you are an all rounder to get enough points, if you haven't evidenced soemthing, they can't mark you on it. Also, 'weaker' candidates are usually so because they 'have their fingers in all the pies'... There is more to medicine than A-Level and GCSE grades...

Also, maybe some of these forms were 'too good to be true' and set off the bull****-o-meter?

If you get over a certain number of marks at interview, you are usually made an offer within a week. If your interview was ****e again, they reject you sharply. For those who fall in between, you go into a hold pile. Last year the pile was reviewed twice - in Jan and in March/April time... they

Judging by Saffie's whole quote, one thinks she's being slightly pretentious anyhow

no that was just an example. i have no idea what BL is looking for in particular- its not publicised

my example was picked because Fluffy always mentions it

walshie- pretentious? how? ^o)

A poor example then. I don't see what BL look for that other med schools don't, apart from seemingly rather self-important applicants judging by a few posters. If you can give an example of something that BL look for that others do, I will happily concede the point. And since you state that you don't know what they look for, how can you possibly say they look for something other med schools don't

You did insinuate that BL students are somehow better than others (as the med school looks for something that other med schools don't)

i say this because i got 3 rejections and 1 offer and i'm not a weak applicant.

er, no. I just insinuated that BL students are in some way different to others.

jeez med students are way too competitive. BL ent the best med school in the world, but do i look like i care? Because I dont.

the strength of my application doesnt have to lie in my GCSE and AS grades though.
So its rather irrelevant.
