Hey there people, anybody have their Physics ISA coming up? Apparently, in some sixth forms, it starts from January. Wondering what the ISAs are about.

Yeah got mine tomorrow, it's about investigating how resistance affects the charge/discharge of a capacitor (or something along those lines)

My school has just started our Isas. They're normally fairly easy, but the ones this year are a JOKE. You'll all be fine.

For non average it's 0.01/actual value and for an average you go back to individual readings and do (range/2)/actual value

Did the Capacitance ISA today. Anyone done the SHM/Mass Spring System one?

I'm not sure if the topics for the ISA and EMPA are similar but I was told that the EMPA practicals were going to be on SHM mass-spring plus how the distribution of mass affects a mass spring system as well as the pd of resistors when capacitors are discharged .

    Was it a straightforward ISA?
No. It was not straight forward. A couple of questions don't even follow the trend of past papers. It's all about if you can figure it out in the time you are given - if not, then sadly that's the A* gone.

    practical or exam?
    Exam.

I didn't like the paper due to 3 rubbish questions. The rest of it was okay. It's just that collectively those 3 questions carried 10 marks = 50/50 --> 40/50. A* --> B. See the problem :P?

Not saying I lost all of the 10 marks as I don't know, but I could of also lost marks elsewhere in the paper. It was awkward though.

What were the difficult questions that came up?

Just to clarify, I haven't done any of the papers yet. I have them on the 10th and 17th.

Were two of those 3 markers? I didn't find it too bad but there was some stuff I really didn't expect after looking at the last capacitor ISA. It's hard to predict ISAs, hopefully the mechanical one later this year will be more straight forward.
