:tsr2:

Have you considered visiting on an open day? Im sure we wont need to do much selling once youve been! it is a truly amazing city!

Yeah I'll be visiting at some point if I get an offer, I'm just impatient

Cardiff rox!!!! It is easy to get around, safe, accomo rox. I can't really compare with other unis, but it really is great. I never went to any of the open days, and visited the city for the first time this august when it was certain i'd be going. Even though when I made my choice I did it blind, when I saw The Diff it was love at first sight. Couldn't have gone anywhere else!!!
Reply 6
.... oh, and with regard to the other thread: we have Charlotte Church in Tescos apparently. Where else has that?!!!
Reply 7
What's a diff?
Reply 8
Oh and most people talk English in Cardiff right? I don't know any welsh...
Reply 9
I think "the Diff" refers to Cardiff, and you'd be surprised to hear the LACK of welsh around here. If you've ever been to North Wales, then you'd know how much they speak it, but here it's predominantly English (The signs are in Welsh & English mind).

It's really nice here, we even get a proper outside ice rink from mid Nov to Jan which I love! Simple things tho...

Sounding good so far
Union- don't have a lot of experience of the Union as I generally go out into town, but the nights I have been have been pretty good. There's a good variety of club nights in 'Solus' (the club): A free 'alternative' night on Mondays, 'Rubber Duck' on Wednesdays (get absolutely steaming, not be able to move, mix with the even more steaming sports teams, always a fancy dress theme), 'Access All Areas' on Friday, which is more indie music, and 'Come Play' on Saturday which I think is dance, but I'm not sure- never been to that one. You've also got the 'pub/bar', The Taf, and CF10 which is a cafe by day, and a comedy club venue/ place where they hold some really small 'gigs'/ bar for some socials by night. And then there's the 'Great Hall' where you get a lot of big bands playing- recently there's been Embrace, Goo goo dolls, Orson, The Kooks and We Are Scientists, and people like The Feeling, Paulo Nutrini and The Charlatons are all coming soon. You also get loads of the (even bigger) bands (Muse, Pink, Scissor Sisters, etc) playing in the indoor arena, so if you're into your music then Cardiff's definitely a good place to be. But yeah, music-wise the union caters for pretty much anyone. There's also a HUGE amount of societies and sports teams you can join, and they run loads of volunteering and fundraising projects too if you're interested in that. So yeah, my experience of the union so far has been pretty good.

Accomodation- it varies. From what I've seen, none of it's anything to write home about, but then it's student accomodation so what do you expect? It's all pretty close to the university though- I live in the furthest away halls, but it's still only a 25-30 minute walk from the main uni, and they put on a free bus once an hour for when you're feeling lazy. There's also a free minibus home at night, which is always good, though taxis rarely cost more than £2 each (and that's expensive!). Most of the accomodation seems to be within a mile of the university though. It's pretty much all self-catered, supposedly all mixed (except for one all girls' hall, and you get quite a few single-sex flats in some of the halls), the majority, I think, is en-suite, and you pretty much get provided with everything you need. But yeah, I'm actually in the cheapest accomodation here, in a building which has a reputation for being fairly rough, and it's perfectly fine, except for a few broken window hinges which they'll come and fix fairly quickly anyway. Once you put your posters up and get all your stuff out, anywhere's liveable- it's the people who make the experience anyway:smile:

The city- I love the city, it's got everything you need. LOADS of places to go out in the evening, cinemas, a laser quest, bowling, etc, etc. Ther'es also Cardiff Bay, which is really pretty, and always good for when your parents come down and you're craving steak :p: There or the old brewery quarter nearer the centre. There's every high street shop you could want, and what's better is that you can pop down in your hour between lectures as town's only a 10-15 minute walk away from the main university. Always good!

Can't think of anything else to write about for now, any more questions?

Cardiff is lovely. And it doesn't rain here nearly as much as you might think.

Visit an open day and take a stroll through town / come for a night out and find out for yourself, only way you'll really know for sure.

That said though, Cardiff canes. I love this city....

I think that's the back of the main building...it's mainly used for sciency stuff like chemistry, although I have Shakespeare lectures in there!
^

That's the 'main' building. It houses biosciences/earth, ocean and planetary sciences/chemistry. There's also another biosciences building right next to it. It's located opposite the union. So yeah, it's a sciency building but lectures from other courses are sometimes held there as they have a number of fairly large lecture theaters.

Really is a great building. Has this great 'traditional academicy' feel to it.

What's it like? Awesome dudes!!

Union - Has everything, including a few bars and a club (or clubs??), on 4 storeys

City - 3 Shopping centres, a few hundred more shops, the same amount of bars/clubs (the best?? judge for yourself)

Going out - cheap student nights all week, good vibe

Food/shopping - yes, plenty and good

Accomodation - HALLS, not HOUSE for first year, ALWAYS (because it's much better living with people you've developed a bond with). If you've got a place in Cardiff, you've pretty much got a place in halls

A visit is strongly recommended, just to see how good it is for yourself first

Cathays, the main student area is worth a look too, just to familiarise yourself with the place
