Buying a microwave source/magnetron?

Not sure if this is the right forum but I'm doing a 3rd year project which requires a microwave source (in the form of a magnetron) that has a frequency of around 8-11 GHz, department doesn't have any. I'd imagine I'd have to get a quote on one of these but does anyone know where I'd be able to get one? Googling "buy magnetron" really doesn't bring up many results, and those that look promising tend to be in America.

Sourcing may be difficult because of ITAR export controls in which magnetrons are a listed component I believe. Perhaps try contacting some users of microwave products for advice on UK suppliers, which could include:

Good luck.

As you probably know that frequency range is called the X band... including that in your search term might help google find you things that aren't cooking appliances. Maplin used to sell a X band source and detector years ago when it was proper geeky.

I also saw this about building your own.. http://www.researchgate.net/profile/jm_zamanillo/publication/228781384_x-band_microwave_gunn_oscillator_for_educational_purposes/links/0c960526827b8e77a3000000

There's also a school science one from unilab/phillip harris but the price seems a bit eye watering if you're opening your own wallet imo.
