No common sense

Ok, this may be a little stupid but I don't have much common sense. This is not something I thought myself but after a number of people over a certain amount of time described me as such, I got the feeling there might be something to it  Its not common sense as in 'thats hot, if you touch you'll get burnt' although I have to admit I am quite burn prone:redface: Its just normal things that occur to other people just don't occur to me. I say or do things I really shouldn't and which my friends all just think make me funny. They always describe me as quite an intelligent person but with just no common sense. I was wondering if there was any way I could develop some? And no this post isn't a joke for those who may think so, I am serious about this.

OOHH! My friend is just like you! Really really dim but got 3 As at Alevel.

I'm the exact same, my nickname is Astarmy but my brain switches off outside school. According to pyshcologies magazine (oooh)To seem as if you have no common sense, is 'an unconcious desire to remain a child'.

i know a couple of people like you, my brother for 1, the cleverest person i know, but has the commonha sense of a lemming...

and a good friend of mine now doing Chem eng... god help us:biggrin:

haha bless. don't worry, many people find it endearing.

if you want to improve common sence, do people skills thiings, like sociology or just try to pay more attention.

Clumsiness should not equal unintelligent.

You just need to develop better judgement.
Be sensible and careful about what you say.
Instead of looking at things, observe them.
Learn from example.

I have a friend like this, she is possibly the smartest person i know, but not an ounce of common sense. Well she couldn't be perfect in every sense could she?

Inteligent, but no common sense? Wouldn't worry at least you are inteligent and it's probably cute - so don't worry!

Hey! I usually acted like an immature child, despite me being one of the brighter students in class. Oh yes, did I mention I can be really blur too? And extremely gullible as well

You must learn it.

You'll get absolutely nowhere without common sense.

It's all good being a bookworm when work is force fed like at school, but come a time when you need to make decisions for yourself, you could possibly be screwed.

Try be a little more decisive.

I lack common sense naturally, and I'm very gullible. It means you really have to pay attention when people are telling you stuff which might not be true.

Reply 16

Isn't it said that generally really intelligent people lack common sense? So next time someone says it, take it as a compliment. You must be a genius!
I know I do.

Reply 17

I'm the same- I'm somewhat scatty and lacking in common sense- I ask the dumbest questions sometimes, and my dad once had to explain a blonde joke to me (irony being I'm also blonde). Someone also told me 'that for someone so intelligent you're so stupid'. Don't worry about it; as long as you can make judgements on what is safe or morally correct and stuff, common sense is overrated!

Reply 18

thanks guys, I now feel fine with being a bit scatty. And like all those other posters, I'm extremely gullible as well and do the whole dumb questions thing too. Thanks for the advice about tinking things through though, thats what tends to get me in the most trouble, speaking without thinking and just putting my foot in.

Why does it matter? Just do well in school, as that's what counts .
