Bit confused if g should be negative or positive in free fall Q's involving equations of motion. Help!

g is positive if the object is going to be accelerating (eg. if it was dropped from a tall building) and it is going to be negative if the object is going to be decelerating (e.g if it is thrown upwards as it is travelling up it will be decelerating). Hope this helped!

You can use either, so long as you're consistent during the question. I like to keep upwards as positive, so g will always be negative, but it's up to you.
