New research suggests that the universities of Oxford and Cambridge were surprisingly the ex-polys of their time. Ancient artefacts found at Sutton Hoo suggest that numerous Anglo-Saxon universities existed prior to the foundation of the universities of Oxford and Cambridge, and that many regarded Oxbridge as inferior newcomers.

Oxford and Cambridge were the London Met of their day!

    Is that the right link?

Wouldn't surprise me. I knew they were founded 'to educate the poor' (people who couldn't afford private tuition, presumably).

Well, perhaps one day, when all the other universities have crumbled into dust, and the 800 year old London Met is the only one left, children will be throwing UCAS points at each other trying to get in.
What's the best type of cheese?
