    Marmalade is on special offer.
Each jar on special offer contains 12.5% more than the standard jar.
A jar on special offer contains 450g of marmalade.
How much does the standard jar contain?

A question like this is called working backwards and it works like this:
100% is equal to the standard jar and the jar on special offer has 12.5% more than the standard jar, so the special offer jar must be equal to 112.5 %.
you have to find 1% of the weight of the special offer jar to find the weight of the standard jar, you do this by dividing 450g by 112.5. This will give you 1% of the weight, so to find the weight of the standard jar, which is equal to 100%, you times your answer by 100 to find the weight. Hope this helps, can sometimes take a little while to wrap your head around these questions.

Were you asking for the solution as if you would write it in a test or exam? If so, I apologise for the lengthy answer, it was intended to be an explanation in the hopes it would be easier to understand.
