you have to have a kind of absence when you banter with someone drunkness helps... It's a bit like tennis really... It depends what kind of banter you mean, you could be being flirty or picky and witty during general conversation.

If you want to be cool, never say the word banter in a non-ironic sense.

Reply 6

By 'banter' do you mean casual insults or a more general sort of blokish type of amusing conversation?

i can't think of a general rule when it comes to banter because all conversations vary to some extent. As for tips oo banter, look at weaknesses in your friends(i know this kinda sounds harsh) that they would readily admit ie someones clothes choice that particular day. One crap example i could give is the constant football banter down the pub: My friend was taking the mick out of Man Utd losing(i'm a man u fan) but i retorted 'And when did Walsall last win the European Cup?'' Obviously this only works if your friend supports a not-so-good side(in this case-Walsall). What sort of micky taking is involved? with your friends?

'And when did Walsall last win the European Cup?''

But that's a rubbish retort because nobody would ever expect us to be winning that :p:

Anyways, I don't think you can plan banter as such. It just happens naturally if you bounce off someone/

i really wnat to be able to banter with ppl

Sarcasm + Alcohol.

If your grammar is any reflection of your general conversation - forget banter.
