Publishing work experience

I'm finishing my A levels on 28th June.. and would like to spend a couple of weeks doing work experience over the summer - or possibly on a one-day-a-week thing after september. Preferably in London, with a publishing house.. I've looked on the harpercollins website and I can't find any real information other than the fact that they do undergraduate work experience in hammersmith.. I am not technically an undergraduate yet though & no doubt these will all be taken..

I wondered if anyone has any advice.. what I should put in a letter to publishers and if they know of any smaller publishers based in london likely to offer work experience. Harpercollins would be FANTASTIC but maybe that's something to save for after my first year of uni..
??? Anyone?? Anyone done anything in this area before?

don't know if this is any help??

I suggest in your letter you just sound very enthusiastic and explain why you want to go into the area etc.....

Im sure they would be please to have an extra pair of hands over the summer
Harper Collins only have eight internships annually, and iirc it's in the US office. Might be an idea to start off in a smaller local publisher to gain work exp, before trying the top guns.

"The Human Resources Department are happy to answer queries relating to Recruitment or the Work Experience Program we run at Hammersmith for undergraduates and postgraduates "- ???That's out of my league anyway as I'm not an undergraduate but is this not something I'd be able to do in london in a couple of years time maybe? I think you may be referring to hapercollins.com rather than .co.uk
