Pulling a sicky are we?

Lots of mild illnesses you might not have completely shaken off by two weeks. Often colds can last for that long, and they certainly couldn't be described as life threatening.

If you're worried that you have someone seriously wrong with you, rest assured- in most cases you would be able to tell. While some potentially fatal conditions start with quite mild symptoms; they would get much worse before you were really in trouble.

It might be an idea to visit your doctor if you're not sure what's wrong, and s/he will hopefully be able to put your mind at ease. Hope you feel better soon if you aren't feeling so well!

I was thinking the same thing!
WHY?
Reply 7
yeah.. why??
if it's to pull a sickie then people like you disgust me! ive just missed uni for 3 weeks for a genuine reason and yet you're here trying to get a fake illness as an excuse

Fess up and accept whatever punishment you get. Be a man (or woman if you are of the female persuasion). The "I was sick" excuse is for people who actually were sick.

If its for a sickie, i'm thinking:

an operation
family bereavement
severe flu/fever
psychological problems such as trauma from being in a horrific accident etc

I hope you have a good reason to need this...

Severe chest infection in the elderly.
I was trying to think of something like this so I wouldn't be able to take my A-levels, and so would get my predicted grades. I couldn't think of any good illnesses though, and it's hard to catch them. i was going to eat loads of salt until I went into a coma (someone said you could do this) but it was a bit risky as I didn't know how much would be enough, and how much too much. At the end of the day I failed because I didn't have the guts to hospitalise myself, and I didn't get appendicitis.

. . . right . . . wtf???

are you the OP?
actually what does OP stand for again?

and there is no way you could fake surgery. for starts, you wouldn't be recovered in time - usually you'd need 6 weeks before going back to work. Seccondly, people would want to see a scar. lastly, they would want to see a medical certificate. plus people may try visit you in hospital.

Best bet is making up a dead relative.

Does anyone know an illness that lasts that long, but is not too serious? chicken pox perhaps?

Looking for some mitigating circumstances are we? Listen, "anon," why don't you just leave H+R well alone; its people like you that are clogging up this forum with the biggest crap going. If you're in the ****, face up to it and stop looking to us for your feeble excuses.

I'm not the OP. I was just offering advice and telling them the shortcomings of my attempt to temporarily make myself ill.
eating loads of orange peel was used in WWI to get out of the trenches, it gives syou flu. glandular fever can pull about 3 weeks, my friend's been of with it i don't think she's too ill.

Glandular fever is not something that usually lasts three weeks - it can be present for MONTHS.

Guys, less of the faking of illness, yeah? Some people are actually ill.

But usually it actually only lasts a couple of weeks acutely. It's just you only hear about the bad cases - most of us have had it without realising.

6 weeks would be for some fairly major stuff - for something like appendicitis you'd be out of hospital in 3 days with probably another week or two off work to avoid getting infections. But anyway, it's not really relevant as it'd be a stupid thing to do just to try and avoid work.
