Be consistent, be thorough, set working out logically, don't make up your own notation, stick to established notation and get your hand on as many past papers/practice questions as possible.

Not really. I remember it being harder than AQA, but no real use for preparing for the STEP ones. Problem with the STEP ones are that there are only a few per year to practice from.
I was more intrigued by the numerical solutions. They cover a lot of numerical topics that I'd never heard of.
