What makes you happy? Lately, I find it hard to smile or laugh because no matter how optimistic I try to stay, I feel no emotions.

without happiness life is pure pain fear and endings, death is much more appetising. Seems a good enough reason to pursue happiness (not to be confused with pleasure, it must be added).

If you are serious about how you feel please speak to a GP regarding possible depression, and come join us in the Mental Health Support Society if you like

    Things that make me happy:

My dog, because she's always happy and fluffy. I like that.

Working out, exercise will make you feel good because endorphins are released. These chemicals interact with the part of your brain that reduces your perception of pain. They also trigger a positive feeling in your body. Something similar to the drug, morphine.

Shopping, retail therapy is good, unless you're skint. If I feel down, I treat myself to a new coat and pair of shoes. I feel better after that.

Talking to my friends, they cheer me up. Usually because they need me to help resolve a crisis taking place in their life and that takes my mind of my own issues. They make me laugh and stuff too.

Eating fruit, this might sound silly, but it does make me feel happy. Or maybe it's just that happier people have more motivation to eat well? Either way, fruit is good for you. Eat fruit.
Kiwi, banana and strawberries are nice. Pineapple as well.

My boyfriend and nephew give me reason to live. Without them I don't know what I'd do.

People can be serious about feeling this way without suffering depression. OP hasn't said anything that indicates a serious mental illness - they're probably just going through a dry spell in life.

i don't believe happiness is a choice, nor comes from within. IMHO, it's a mix of choice, circumstance and internal. if happiness is purely internal, then explain depression or why people get sad over break-ups, or happy when they see loved ones....

I think happiness is about being/doing things one loves, and being around friends/family.
