# Biology AQA A2 ISA Help Please!! watch

1. I can't seem to find the thread for general questions, but I wonder if anyone could explain how to calculate and use:

- the chi squared test
- the spearman rank test

for the second of the three parts of the ISA. Cheers

The Chi-Square test is used to evaluate a relationship between two categorical variables (i.e. variables that can take on a limited number of possible values and therefore belongs to a particular category; for example, elements, compounds and metals etc). The Chi-Square test is an example of a nonparametric test, and these are used when assumptions about 'normal distribution' cannot be met.

The Spearman's rank test is used to measure the strength of association between two ranked variables. The Spearman's rank is another example of a nonparametric test.

Having defined these tests, I will not go on to quote their formulae, but I will provide an AQA Resource titled 'Students' Statistics Sheet' which I believe will be absolutely perfect for your needs:

Hope this helps.
