I'm in year 12 and have mock exams coming up soon, from which my AS level predicted grades will be made. A couple of my teachers have mentioned that these grades will be sent to universities, but I don't understand why they would send off our predicted grades for AS when we apply for unis in October/January of year 13, by which time we will have our actual AS grades. Can anyone help me with this?

No they don't matter and they wouldn't send off your AS predicted grades.

In the extreme case where you are ill or someone has a heart attack in your exam, you will receive your predicted grades as actual grades and then it will be important.

Universities get AS grades and A level predicted grades. How your school decides predicted grades is up to them but I can't believe it would be solely - or mostly - on AS mocks.

My school say the same thing. I'm now doing a2 and I can tell you that they only say that to scare you and make you do well in your mocks. your a2 predicted grades will get sent to universities and those depend on how well you do in your as exams and what your teacher decides to predict you.

They don't matter one bit apart from giving you a rough idea of what to expect at the end of the year on your current trajectory. You can put in more/less work to change them.
