Further Maths - Numerical Methods

image.jpg

I have attatched a photo of the question (I wasn't sure how to type it out so that it was clear which symbol is which)

I've managed to do all of part (i) but I cannot get the right answer for (ii) - I think I'm going wrong in finding the upper and lower bounds for r but I cannot see where as I'm using the same method as I did for (i)

Any help would be amazing!

Thank you

What are your upper and lower bounds for each angle?

I had them as
36.95 and 37.05
30.95 and 31.05

I had them as
36.95 and 37.05
30.95 and 31.05

For (ii) I got the error to be ±0.25\pm 0.25
So I got α=[36.75,37.25)\alpha = [36.75, 37.25), β=[30.75,31.25)\beta = [30.75, 31.25)

But it says that each is correct to 0.5 degrees??

Apply the same logic as in the first part. If it's to the nearest 1o1^othen the error is ±0.5o\pm 0.5^o. So if it's to the nearest 0.5o0.5^o, the error is ±0.25o\pm 0.25^o.
