I wrote a poem about the death of a good friend's parent. The friend isn't a poet, and doesn't know I wrote this poem. A magazine wants to publish the poem, but there is a small chance my friend will see the poem and recognise the situation/my name.

Should I retract the poem? Should I tell my friend? Should I do nothing and hope my friend never hears of the poem? Would the friend be flattered and touched or hurt and betrayed?

    Any moral guidance much appreciated!

It's blindingly obvious that you should ask them if they would be okay with it first.
